Project Description

A Small Act of Liberation

These diptychs were created from April 24 to May 1 of 2020 during the stay at home order put in place to manage the COVID-19 pandemic. Up to this point, I spent most of the weeks at home feeling in some sort of purgatory, unwilling to pick up my “non-essential” tools to do my even more “non-essential” work. At the same time, my roll as wife and mother increased tenfold, as did my anxiety and day-to-day stressors.

The first piece was created at a peak moment of my frustration. I had locked myself away from my family to find some semblance of quiet among the chaos and instead of meditation, I picked up my camera. I didn’t leave the room I was in, I just looked for ways to capture what I was feeling with what I had.

The rest of the pieces were completed in the same way. No post-processing tricks- everything done in camera and with items I had around the house.
